Installation - Step 1 - Previous install

Most of the current popular distributions are already including the HPLIP software with their Linux distribution. Verify if you already have the software installed. If the software is already installed you can proceed to Step 4: Setup your printer

Note: After an HPLIP release, all major distributions usually have an RPM or debian package update, this would be the preferred method to install the HPLIP software.

Follow the steps for the Linux distribution type you are using:

RPM Based : Fedora Core, Mandriva, and SuSE (Red Hat 8/9 How-to)

APT Based : Debian and Ubuntu

Note: If you are using a distribution that does not support RPM or APT, or you are unsure, please refer to the documentation that came with your operating system to determine this information.

Skip this step and proceed to step 2.
